TubaFest IV

The first Saturday of August means one thing...TubaFest!! This is the night Marc's dad busts out the tuba and teams up with a local accordion player to perform authentic German polkas.

We have been going to a local German restaurant, Henk's, for many years, eating good food, drinking good beer, and listening to the accordion player (and self-described comedian) Allen. About 5 years ago, after finishing up dinner and drinking several beers, Marc's dad got to talking with Allen, and decided that the following August, they would team up to play together - the accordion and tuba, in supposed perfect harmony. Marc's dad invited all of his family, friends, and coworkers to the tiny restaurant. Many, many more came than he really expected. The house was packed, the beer started to flow, and Allen and Marc's dad began to play. They began a tradition they immediately regretted.

4 years later, they are still going strong. And Marc's dad is still trying to find his pitch.

This year was special, though, because it was Anna's first TubaFest! The Hanks and their daughter Meredith came, both sets of grandparents were there, and to top it off, Julie's mom made Anna and Meredith matching durndels, a type of German dress.
